Congratulations to our second annual Future Defense Lawyer Scholarship recipients! First-year law students Madison McPhearson of Southwestern Law School and Justice Oglesby of Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University have each been selected to receive a $5,000 scholarship award.
As a firm, Bowman and Brooke believes in investing in future leaders and is strongly committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession. In 2023, we debuted our scholarship program for law students who self-identify as Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Hispanic or Latino, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, LGBTQIA+ and/or individuals with disabilities. Funded by the Bowman and Brooke Foundation, the scholarship requires recipients to be enrolled full-time in an ABA-accredited law school for the entire upcoming academic year.
The Bowman and Brooke Foundation is a non-profit corporation dedicated to charitable contributions and other financial support of community service activities aligned with the goals of the firm’s partners, employees and clients. The foundation provides financial aid to a variety of groups and programs serving the needs of the underrepresented and underprivileged, as well as community resources.
Through the Bowman and Brooke Foundation, we also congratulate to Nayomi Velez Torres-Velez and Gabriela Aste-Molina who were selected to receive a $1,500 scholarship from The Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey (HBA-NJ) at its 43rd Annual Scholarship Gala and Awards Dinner.
The HBA-NJ is a professional organization dedicated to representing the interests of Hispanic legal professionals and the Hispanic community in New Jersey. It provides resources, networking opportunities and advocacy for diversity and inclusion within the legal profession.
